StandBy Database

A standby database is a copy of the original database on another system in LAN or WAN. All transactions of the original database are copied on the mirror system and supplied to the mirror database.

In contrast to the so called `hardware technologies`, this method concerns a logical reflection, because the archive and recovery mechanisms of the database are used.

This solution offers optimum protection against logical failures, when the recovery files are supplied additionally to the mirror database time-shifted (e.g. when they are four hours old).
