Hardware Availability

The topic `hardware availablity` deals with how to increase the availability of physical hardware such as servers, storage media, switches and much more. If we are looking at these components, we shouldn't forget to look at the PCs, displays and the communications infrastructure too. It's very important to have an overall view of the data exchange infrastructure to ensure the business processes that need to communicate with business partners will be stable and protected. Hardware availablity is only one part of a HA concept.

Simple opportunities to reduce the downtime are to have redundancy for critical components, or a high level of SLAs with the hardware to attain the shortest possible delay required to bring the component in use.

The next level of hardware availability can be achieved by using fault tolerant systems.
