VMware VirtualCenter active/standby configuration

The SteelEye™ solution for protecting VMware VirtualCenter-Server is available as an active/standby configuration. Each time services are only active on one server. As shown in the picture the backup server is faliover target for the primary server (for one server instance). VMware VirtualCenter Server and its information database have to lie on saved volume. The database can be installed local on the same server or in the network. Is the database on the same server as VMware VirtualCenter both can be protected on the same volume.

Does an error occur and the try of local recovery fails LifeKeeper brings all applications on the backup server in service. After a short break clients (VMware Virtual Infratstructure-Client) can access the system.

VMware VirtualCenter active/active configuration

Active/active configurations are also supported. VirtualCenter servers and database servers can both be running their separate workloads while acting as backup for each other.
